Big changes ahead for this sweet family! Changes that include a change of scenery for their home port, and so to celebrate their time here in the PNW we arranged a family session at Point No Point beach. Around the same time last year we did a session when their little one was about to turn one; daddy had just come home from a deployment and Mason was just taking his first steps! What a difference a year makes! This year Mason was running, non-stop all over the beach discovering sand and sticks and rocks and seagulls and even two seals! We had so much fun and a lot of laughs keeping up with his serious focus on all the fun this beach offers! And that’s always my goal at these type of sessions: not only to create beautiful images but to also create a happy memory as well. A memory that connects to the phase of life your family is in and all the beauty that time holds for you.
I could hardly wait to get to Michigan to visit my friend who just relocated there from her home here in WA. Although our friendship is relatively new, Sara is just one of those special people who makes me feel like I’ve known her forever. She is also the master photographer behind my family photos that I absolutely cherish! Anyway, this family has been through a season of change and transition, and to honor all that Sara asked if we could do a Motherhood Session, with just her and the kids. And let me tell you: it.was.MAGIC! She is the most beautiful mother, embracing her children and fully enjoying all the joy and curiosity they bring to her life. She is one of those moms who make me want to be an even better mom: to be more present with my children, more in-tune with their feelings, and more grateful to be a part of their lives. That’s what I will always think of when I see these images we took that day.
Even though I specialize in birth story photography, I honestly love capturing *every* stage of motherhood. It’s all worth celebrating. Don’t you think?
As we planned for Milo’s 6month Session, Mama asked if we could do a Milk Bath Session to celebrate another milestone: Six Month Breastfeeding! I was immediately on board–I breastfed one of my children too and I remember how huge six months felt and wanted to honor those feelings for this family. I’ve seen these milk bath styled sessions before, but this was my first opportunity to ever do one and I absolutely fell in love. Thankfully, this family had a *perfect* tub with a huge window right by it so we had plenty of bath and plenty of creamy light as well to capture this part of their life together.
After my visit in WI, I hopped aboard a ferry and sailed across Lake Michigan to visit the sweetest friends! We had a grand time catching up and chatting, visiting the local science museum and playing games together! I was able to grab some more photo souvenirs of this beautiful family before I left and was reminded again of why I love what I do so very much: whatever stage your family is at, it is worth capturing and celebrating! Things will change as time passes, and having these images of days past not only help celebrate the current stage of family growth, but it also helps us celebrate the change to come. Being able to look back and see how different things were shows us all the wonderful new growth we’ve made, while treasuring our past. That’s what I love about family sessions: capturing the heart of the season you are in. What I love especially about these images is the twinkle in the kids eyes, evidence of a happy and active childhood. Not only do they love each other fully, but they also really like each other! Which is always a joy to behold. I love them so much and am so thankful for the time I was able to spend with them.
Even though I specialize in birth story photography, I always love to capture growing families at any stage. This sweet family is getting ready to welcome a new child through adoption and asked me to take some family portraits to include in their portfolio–a step I remember very well from our own adoptions! What a joy to be able to to this for another family! They were so sweet and welcoming, I just know this home and this family will be a soft and wonderful place for their new child to come home to. I can’t wait to meet them!
From the very first time we met, working with Brittany and Nick has been an absolute honor and pleasure. I was so proud to meet a new mom and dad who knew just how special this time of their life would be–who despite their own reservations went ahead and just did a maternity session because it really is a unique experience and a time you just don’t get back.
I loved how clear they were with their birth plan, and how calmly they processed every twist and turn of their birth story. My heart filled with awe when after three days of laboring at the hospital, Brittany knew the right way to give birth to her baby was through surgery, and embraced her birth-day with pride and with joy, and the complete support and adoration of her beloved husband.
And so of course when I arrived for their newborn session a week later I was just a puddle on the floor seeing just how much love had blossomed in that home. The love these two have for their new son only magnifies and strengthens the love they have for each other. And it doesn’t get more beautiful than that, does it?
A little mist couldn’t keep us down! With just a week left until her due date, we had to work quickly and with whatever weather to get these maternity images done before baby’s arrival! I love the way these two are with each other, their love for each other and their little one is so evident! Makes for great photos too! 😉 Enjoy
I loved meeting this sweet little family at the beautiful Scenic Beach in Seabeck! We had a fun session walking around the different scenes this park has to offer and capturing this adorable, growing time with their little boy who is about to turn one!
I love this family and this session so much I could just…BURST! But I will try to pull myself together 😉 We had so much fun walking the Clear Creek trails, finding the best spots to reflect all the love of this season: of the year and of their lives. I felt so very honored to to witness their love, unity, and support for each other–they made my job easy! I hope you enjoy scrolling through a few of their images!
While we were in the book store, the shopkeeper told us he has a place out back that would be good for photos…so we followed him out back and sure enough! He was right! Even though it was a little strange getting there through the back door ally, once we stepped into the space it was so secluded, peaceful, and private. Just what our downtown session needed. I melted as these two shared kisses and secrets, and then embraced each other closed their eyes and took a deep breath together. It was pure magic. Real life love. This is why I love my job.
