Big changes ahead for this sweet family! Changes that include a change of scenery for their home port, and so to celebrate their time here in the PNW we arranged a family session at Point No Point beach. Around the same time last year we did a session when their little one was about to turn one; daddy had just come home from a deployment and Mason was just taking his first steps! What a difference a year makes! This year Mason was running, non-stop all over the beach discovering sand and sticks and rocks and seagulls and even two seals! We had so much fun and a lot of laughs keeping up with his serious focus on all the fun this beach offers! And that’s always my goal at these type of sessions: not only to create beautiful images but to also create a happy memory as well. A memory that connects to the phase of life your family is in and all the beauty that time holds for you.
I could hardly wait to get to Michigan to visit my friend who just relocated there from her home here in WA. Although our friendship is relatively new, Sara is just one of those special people who makes me feel like I’ve known her forever. She is also the master photographer behind my family photos that I absolutely cherish! Anyway, this family has been through a season of change and transition, and to honor all that Sara asked if we could do a Motherhood Session, with just her and the kids. And let me tell you: it.was.MAGIC! She is the most beautiful mother, embracing her children and fully enjoying all the joy and curiosity they bring to her life. She is one of those moms who make me want to be an even better mom: to be more present with my children, more in-tune with their feelings, and more grateful to be a part of their lives. That’s what I will always think of when I see these images we took that day.
Even though I specialize in birth story photography, I honestly love capturing *every* stage of motherhood. It’s all worth celebrating. Don’t you think?
After my visit in WI, I hopped aboard a ferry and sailed across Lake Michigan to visit the sweetest friends! We had a grand time catching up and chatting, visiting the local science museum and playing games together! I was able to grab some more photo souvenirs of this beautiful family before I left and was reminded again of why I love what I do so very much: whatever stage your family is at, it is worth capturing and celebrating! Things will change as time passes, and having these images of days past not only help celebrate the current stage of family growth, but it also helps us celebrate the change to come. Being able to look back and see how different things were shows us all the wonderful new growth we’ve made, while treasuring our past. That’s what I love about family sessions: capturing the heart of the season you are in. What I love especially about these images is the twinkle in the kids eyes, evidence of a happy and active childhood. Not only do they love each other fully, but they also really like each other! Which is always a joy to behold. I love them so much and am so thankful for the time I was able to spend with them.
Oh how wonderful it is to watch a little one grow up! Sometimes it can be a little bittersweet to see it happen so quickly, but that’s what these Chickadee Sessions are all about: celebrating and remembering every little phase of that first year of growth. And Milo is growing so much and so well! What a joy to see his little face light up my frame as well as his parents, who are more in love than ever! We had a fun time grabbing some sweet portraits out in his grammy’s backyard before heading inside for a special photo shoot for part two! (Stay tuned!)
Even though I specialize in birth story photography, I always love to capture growing families at any stage. This sweet family is getting ready to welcome a new child through adoption and asked me to take some family portraits to include in their portfolio–a step I remember very well from our own adoptions! What a joy to be able to to this for another family! They were so sweet and welcoming, I just know this home and this family will be a soft and wonderful place for their new child to come home to. I can’t wait to meet them!
What an honor to help support this family through their birth story! I spent 22 hours with them from the time I arrived at their home, anticipating their home birth, then when complications arose joining them at the hospital to deliver there, through delivery and then into the recovery room to meet sister! It was a long one but I loved every minute–being a source of support for families during their birth is one of my favorite parts of this job.
When it became obvious that this little one needed to be born through a cesarean birth, Mama got her wish and the surgical team allowed me to follow them into the OR to capture that magical birth moments! I remember her talking to her medical team before the surgery saying “Please let my photographer come it–it’s the only thing left that can go right for me: to have birth photos.” Such a profound moment for me to remember that birth photography has value in that it is something mothers and families can count on through all the many variables of birth. It was such a wonderful experience to stand alongside this family and help support this amazing, powerful birth story!
Mother Bird Photography is proud to offer Your Chickadee’s First Year Sessions to capture all the major milestones of your baby’s first year! You may remember this little guys birth story from a few months ago–I was so delighted to be able to go back and see how much Milo has grown! His parents are doing excellent work and are just as in love as ever! I can’t wait to see how much he grows and changes this year! Enjoy a small sampling of this in-home session 💛 heather
A little mist couldn’t keep us down! With just a week left until her due date, we had to work quickly and with whatever weather to get these maternity images done before baby’s arrival! I love the way these two are with each other, their love for each other and their little one is so evident! Makes for great photos too! 😉 Enjoy
I loved meeting this sweet little family at the beautiful Scenic Beach in Seabeck! We had a fun session walking around the different scenes this park has to offer and capturing this adorable, growing time with their little boy who is about to turn one!
Because Andréanne and Michael were in from out-of-town, we decided the first stop in Poulsbo would be the famous Sluys Bakery! After all, happy people make for happy pictures–and what makes a body happier than baked goods? 😉 Anyway, it was a fun and yummy pit stop during this session…stay tuned for more images of our walk around this completely charming town!
